Paper Logbook Scanner

Paper Logbook Scanner

The Paper Logbook Scanner allows you to convert handwritten pilot logbook entries into digital flight records using AI-powered data extraction.

Simply take a picture of your paper logbook pages and FLYLOG.io will identify and extract individual flight records for review before importing them into your digital logbook.

This feature is ideal solution for pilots who want to preserve their flight history while transitioning from a paper logbook to a fully digital solution.

How to Access

  • Mobile App: From the main screen, navigate to Import → Scan Paper Logbook.

  • Web App: From the left-side navigation menu, navigate to Import → Scan Paper Logbook.

Before Scanning

For the best results, we recommend the following:

  • Place your logbook on a flat surface.

  • Use good lighting and avoid shadows or reflections.

  • Use a solid dark background behind the logbook whenever possible.

  • Capture the entire two-page layout (both left and right pages) in a single image.

  • Take the photo in landscape orientation.

  • Ensure all entries, signatures, and totals are clearly visible and readable.

⚠️ Poor image quality, incomplete pages, or difficult handwriting may reduce extraction accuracy.

Scanning Your Logbook

  1. Open Scan Paper Logbook.

  2. Tap Select Scan Source.

  3. Choose whether to take a new photo or upload an existing image.

  4. Submit the image for processing.

The scanner will analyze the page and extract the flight records it identifies.

Reviewing Extracted Records

After processing is complete, all extracted flight records will be displayed for review.

Before importing the data, you can:

  • Verify flight dates and aircraft registrations.

  • Check flight times and landings.

  • Edit incorrect values.

  • Remove unwanted records.

  • Confirm that extracted totals match your paper logbook.

💡 We strongly recommend reviewing all extracted records before completing the import.

Supported Logbooks

The scanner is designed to work with most standard pilot logbook formats used worldwide.

Extraction accuracy depends on several factors, including:

  • Handwriting quality

  • Image quality

  • Page layout

  • Completeness of logbook entries

  • Accuracy of calculations in the original paper logbook

Troubleshooting

The scanner cannot read my page

Try the following:

  • Improve lighting conditions.

  • Retake the photo with better focus.

  • Ensure the entire two-page layout is visible.

  • Use a darker background behind the logbook.

  • Avoid shadows, glare, or cropped pages.

Some flights were extracted incorrectly

This can occasionally happen with handwritten records. You can manually edit any extracted flight before importing it into your logbook.

The extracted totals do not match my paper logbook

Verify the calculations in your original paper logbook first. If necessary, adjust the extracted records before completing the import.

Additional Notes

  • You can scan multiple pages and import them gradually.

  • Imported records behave like regular flight entries and can be edited at any time.

  • The Paper Logbook Scanner is continuously improving and may provide better results as new logbook formats and handwriting styles are added.
